What Is the Ideal Antimicrobial Stewardship Team?

MAR 30, 2017 | CONTAGION EDITORIAL STAFF

Emily Heil, PharmD, BCPS-AQ ID, assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, and Contagion® Editorial Advisory Board Member, describes what the ideal antibiotic stewardship team would look like.

Interview Transcript (slightly modified for readability)

“The ideal stewardship team would certainly need to be interdisciplinary, so including pharmacist leaders, physician leaders, focusing on folks from your microbiology lab—they can definitely not be forgotten—your lab is a key partner in an effective stewardship team, [and being] partners with infection prevention. I would also argue that your executive administration should be a part of your stewardship team because you really need that leadership support and buy-in to have an effective program. So, having them be actively engaged in your team I think is important as well.”
