JAN 31, 2019 | CONTAGION® EDITORIAL STAFF

Segment Description: Sharon Tsay, MD, medical epidemiologist in the Mycotic Diseases Branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, explains why burden estimates for candidemia are needed.

Interview transcript (modified slightly for readability):

Tsay: Burden estimates are really important for us to understand what the burden of a disease is and there at this point are no existing burden estimates for candidemia in this country. So, what our group really is thought to try to put a number on how much candidemia is in the US so that's something that we can trend going forward and understand the impact of any interventions going forward and really understand how many people are affected.
