What Does the Public Need to Understand About the Zika Virus?

JUL 20, 2016 | DANIELLE MROZ, MA

Stephen Redd, MD (RADM, USPHS), Director of the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response (OPHPR) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shares the main point to keep in mind about the Zika virus.

Interview Transcript (slightly modified for readability):

“I think the main point that is difficult to convey about Zika is the particularity about the risk group. For most of us who are not pregnant, or not thinking of becoming pregnant, it’s not an issue for us. It’s really protecting pregnant women and their babies. I think that’s one thing in all of this: the focus on pregnant women is just something critical that we all need to bear in mind at all times.”
