Colleen Kelley, MD, associate professor of medicine for the Division of Infectious Diseases in the department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, discusses what is needed to ensure that all individuals get tested for HIV—not just those who are at elevated risk. Dr. Kelley stresses that public health campaigns can be instrumental in raising awareness as well as increasing availability and accessibility to testing. As a medical community, she feels that HIV testing needs to be routinized; everyone between the ages of 15 and 64 should get tested at least once in their lifetime according to public health guidelines.
