Applying African Ebola Response Experience to the Coronavirus Pandemic

West and Central African nations have been developing infrastructure to combat ebola, malaria, malnutrition, and more.

Contagion spoke to infectious disease specialists Dr. Krutika Kuppalli and Dr. Jason Kindrachuk about the ways international organizations with ties to African civil society can build trust, continue collaborating on existing health issues as equal partners, and learn lessons for the SARS-CoV-2 response.

With the reemergence of Ebola virus in recent years, West and Central African nations have been developing infrastructure to combat epidemics alongside long-standing health burdens like malaria, malnutrition, HIV, and more.

With the Democratic Republic of the Congo's 10th Ebola outbreak ending just as an 11th Ebola outbreak emerges in Mbandaka (alongside the global coronavirus pandemic) the region and world alike face long term challenges which will require national and international mobilization.
