Contagion Live News Network: Coronavirus Updates for April 27, 2020

Article

Tune in for a daily COVID-19 update.

Welcome to the Contagion Live News Network, I’m Grant Gallagher and this is a coronavirus update for Monday, April 27th.

According to Johns Hopkins, the number of COVID 19 cases around the world since the outbreak started has now surpassed 3 million. There have been over 200,000 deaths globally.

In the United States, we are fast approaching our millionth case. 55,118 Americans have died of COVID-19.

Particularly hard hit nationally and abroad have been nursing homes. Older adults are substantially more likely to experience severe infection when they are exposed to SARS-CoV-2, and in some jurisdictions as much as half of COVID mortality relates to outbreaks in nursing homes.

Earlier today on Contagion, we published an article concerning the experiences of people living with HIV during the coronavirus pandemic, and what clinical cases may look like.
