Emily Heil, PharmD, BCPS-AQ ID, assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, discusses one of the standards from the CDC’s core elements for antibiotic stewardship in acute care settings: all antibiotic orders should have a dose, duration, and an indication for use. Dr. Heil shares how her own institution has implemented a variation of this standard. In a recent study, Dr. Heil and her colleagues examined the accuracy of the indications to ensure that the practice was working as it was intended.
