FDA Detects Salmonella in Traders Joe’s Cashews

Wenders LLC, based in Dublin, CA, has initiated a recall for specific batches of Trader Joe's Nuts, 50% Less Sodium Roasted & Salted Whole Cashews (SKU Number – 37884), due to the detection of Salmonella contamination. The issue was uncovered during routine FDA testing at import, which identified that at least one of the recalled lots tested positive for Salmonella. Consumers are strongly advised not to consume any products affected by this recall.

According to a recent report by Contagion, citing the CDC, "Most people infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Symptoms typically begin 6 hours to 6 days after ingesting the bacteria and most individuals recover without treatment within 4 to 7 days. However, certain groups—particularly children under 5 years old, adults over 65, and those with weakened immune systems—may experience more severe illnesses necessitating medical treatment or hospitalization."

The recall targets the following lot numbers: T12139, T12140, T12141, and T12142. The products affected by this recall are identifiable by these lot numbers and their country of origin, India or Vietnam. They have been distributed across US states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington, and sold exclusively at Trader Joe’s stores. This recall does not apply to any other lot numbers or products.
