Interview transcript (modified slightly for readability):

Ben Berkhout, MD, PhD: We work on the development of a novel curative strategy for HIV-1 infected individuals. As you know, we have many drugs that we can use to block the virus replication and these drugs are wonderful, they have saved many lives.

But what we are trying to establish is a new therapy that will be a 1 shot therapy, with a long-term curative effect. Because all of these drugs are wonderful, but you have to take them every day of your life, so that’s what we want to change, and this is based on the CRISPR-cas technology.
