Inappropriate Empiric Therapy as a Driver of Poor Outcomes

Video

Glenn Tillotson, PhD, explains how inappropriate empiric therapy can drive poor outcomes.

Segment Description: Glenn Tillotson, PhD, consultant with GST Micro and Contagion® Editorial Advisory Board member, explains how inappropriate empiric therapy can drive poor outcomes.

Interview transcript (modified slightly for readability):

Dr. Tillotson: "Inappropriate antibiotic empiric therapy is really recognized as a driver of poor outcomes such as longer length of stay in an intensive care unit, a longer length of stay in the hospital alone, prolonged antibiotic therapy, having to swap and change, and, in some skin infections, it actually can lead to mortality. So conditions such as abscesses that are inappropriately treated those can turn into complex challenges."
