Michael Edmond, MD, MPH, MPA, chief quality officer at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, explains who is in charge of leading infection control programs in hospitals.

Interview Transcript (modified slightly for readability):

“Particularly in larger hospitals, there’s an infection control program that is led by a health care epidemiologist; those are usually infectious disease physicians who often have additional training in public health, or specifically in health care epidemiology. They lead the program, and along with them, they work with infection preventionists, to implement the things that need to be done to make us ready for these pathogens that may come to bite us in the future.”
