The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced 2 ongoing recalls that involve both corndogs and sausage-on-a-stick products produced by 2 different companies.

One of the recalls involves Foster Poultry Farms, LLC, based in Livingston, California, which is recalling approximately 3.8 million pounds of chicken corn dog products that may be contaminated with pieces of wood embedded in the batter, according to FSIS. The recalled products were produced between July 30, 2024, and August 4, 2025, and bear establishment number “P-6137B” inside the USDA mark of inspection or on the package. These items were distributed nationwide to retail and institutional locations, including the Department of Defense and USDA Commodity Foods donations. Although some products reached schools, they were part of commercial sales, not theNational School Lunch Program.1

The issue came to light after FSIS received a consumer complaint reporting an injury linked to the product, along with additional complaints, 5 of which involved injuries. Consumers experiencing injury or illness are urged to seek medical attention. FSIS warns that affected products may still be in refrigerators or freezers at homes or institutions. Consumers and institutions should not eat the products and are advised to discard or return them to the place of purchase.1

Separately, there is another recall that involves both corndogs and sausage-on-a-stick products. Specifically, the Hillshire Brands Company of Haltom City, Texas, is recalling approximately 58 million pounds of corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products that may be contaminated with wood pieces embedded in the batter, according to FSIS.2

The recalled items were packaged between March 17 and September 26, 2025, and bear establishment numbers “EST-582”or“P-894.” They were distributed nationwide through retail stores, online sales, food service locations, and to school districts and Department of Defense facilities. While some products reached schools, these were commercial sales and not part of USDA’s National School Lunch Program.2

What You Need to Know

Two major recalls were issued by FSIS involving Foster Poultry Farms and The Hillshire Brands Company, together affecting over 61 million pounds of corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products potentially contaminated with wood pieces embedded in the batter.

Both recalls stemmed from consumer complaints, including multiple reports of injuries caused by wood fragments. FSIS urges anyone experiencing injury or illness to seek medical attention.

The recalled products were distributed nationally, including to schools, military, and food service locations, though not through the National School Lunch Program. FSIS continues to conduct recall effectiveness checks to ensure contaminated products are removed from circulation.

The recall was initiated after multiple consumer complaints, including 5 reports of injury linked to wood fragments found in the batter. Hillshire’s investigation determined that wooden sticks entered the production process before battering. FSIS has not received further reports of injury but advises anyone concerned to seek medical attention.2

FSIS warns that recalled products may still be stored in consumers’ or institutions’ refrigerators and freezers. Consumers, schools, and institutions are urged not to eat the affected items. Instead, they should dispose of them properly or return them to the place of purchase.2

FSIS continues to monitor the situation to ensure food safety and prevent further distribution of contaminated products. FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the company has notified its customers and that affected products are removed from circulation. A list of recalled products and labels is available on the FSIS website, and retail distribution lists will be posted as they become available at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.2
