Badowski is a clinical professor/clinical pharmacist and associate director of Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Services at the University of Illinois, Chicago Retzky College of Pharmacy and the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System. She currently leads telemedicine efforts for individuals living with HIV and in custody in the Illinois Department of Corrections. She is also leading efforts to expand and increase the prescribing of PrEP for HIV. Her research evaluates outcomes in people with HIV, HIV prevention, and long-acting injectable antiretroviral therapy.

Gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) therapy consists of administration of exogenous hormones and suppression of endogenous hormone production, with the goal of obtaining characteristics more congruent with an individual’s gender identity. Here is a review of these therapies and consideration for PrEP and the risks associated with HIV in this diverse population.
