Colleen Kelley, MD, associate professor of medicine for the Division of Infectious Diseases in the department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, describes the role of health care providers in linking individuals with needed pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). She shares different factors that providers need to be aware of, including the epidemiological context of where they’re practicing and the risk behavior their patients are engaging in. She stresses that as the “gatekeepers to giving out PrEP,” providers need to work on seeking out at-risk individuals and offering them PrEP.
