MAD-ID and SIDP Launching a New Conference Named Antimicrobials
Leaders from SIDP and MAD-ID highlighted their new partnership and announced the launch of the Antimicrobials meeting in 2027, focused on combining cutting-edge science with clinical antimicrobial practice.
A new collaboration between the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP) and Making a Difference in Infectious Diseases (MAD-ID) is set to reshape the future of antimicrobial education and pharmacotherapy meetings.
During the discussion, leaders from both organizations described the partnership as a natural evolution built on shared missions centered on antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacotherapy, and advancing infectious diseases education. The collaboration will culminate in the launch of a new conference, Antimicrobials, from May 22 to 26, 2027, in Baltimore, Maryland.
SIDP President Erin McCreary, PharmD, BCIDP, FIDSA, highlighted the broad educational scope and collaborative vision behind the new event.
“There’s going to be clinical infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, PK/PD [pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics], drug development pipeline antibiotics, and really how those all play in pharmacotherapy, which is really our heart and soul,” she said.
Michael J. Rybak, PharmD, PhD, MPH, FCCP, FIDP, president and treasurer of MAD-ID, emphasized the meeting’s goal of bridging existing gaps in infectious diseases conferences.
“We hope to split the two and have both clinical applications and the latest science, again advancing therapeutics, as Erin has mentioned, and optimizing antimicrobial therapy.”
The meeting will also feature partnerships with the ESCMID PKPD Study Group and the International Society of Anti-Infective Pharmacology, including a dedicated PK/PD workshop. Organizers said the strong turnout during the first year of the SIDP and MAD-ID collaboration exceeded expectations, with more than 800 participants attending through workshops, virtual programming, and in-person sessions.
